Encapsulated Crawl Spaces

Encapsulated crawl spaces are becoming increasingly popular in the Tidewater area. Encapsulation involves the installation of a liner that completely covers the crawl space ground and extends up the foundation walls. In some instances we have seen the walls spray foamed, or the use of rigid or batt insulation on the walls. As Pest Management Professionals blocking visual access to these areas is of great concern to us. We inspect the foundation for presence of termite tunnels and also look for any evidence of previous treatments so we can provide the homeowner an accurate report of the homes condition.

Health Concerns about Misuse of Pesticides for Bed Bug Control

Public Health Issues

The Agency for Toxic Substances  and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are alerting the public to an emerging national concern regarding misuse of pesticides to treat infestations of bed bugs and other insects indoors. Some pesticides are being applied indoors even though they are approved only for outdoor use. Even pesticides that are approved for indoor use can cause harm if over applied or not used as instructed on the product label.

Wavy TV 10

Recently, Wavy TV 10 aired a report about a homeowner in Norfolk importing termites from bagged mulch purchased at Home Depot. TPCA member companies have complained to TPCA about inaccuracies in the report, and the following letter was sent to Wavy TV 10.
